Comic books and comic strips in news papers have always been a source of attraction or giving some sort of social message or mere sarcasm. It is the work of a cartoonist to potray life on a blank sheet and express his ideas through sketches. In simple words a cartoonist is a person who specialises in drawing cartoons. Cartoons can be used to present important issues to millions of people in an easily understood form. Cartoonists often specialise in one of the forms like political cartoonist, Comic strip cartoonists, Animators etc. Animators generally do their work for television, motion pictures, and video games. With the interest in animated films and adult cartoons on television rapidly growing, the Cartoonist industry is growing fast.

Formal training to become a cartoonist includes high school courses in art, history, political science , government and literature. A bachelors degree in fine arts(4 yrs course)from an art institute is required to become a cartoonist. A bachelors degree in political science or journalism is beneficial for a political cartoonist. One may go to art school to study drawing, lettering, typography and computer graphics . there one also learns to create a variety of cartoon types using different tools and media. A few art schools offer graduation in cartooning. Correspondence schools also offer certain cartooning courses. Since computers have become integral to the field , advanced skill in computer graphics is required.

A Cartoonist who can find humor in the ordinary will have the opportunity to work for newspapers, broadcasting, or design websites. Although computer’s aid has changed this field considerably but still a cartoonist is expected to be creative and humorous in your thoughts and vision. Possible venues for employment may include television, the internet, newspapers and video game production.remuneration generally depends upon your position and the region in which you are employed. Possible employment opportunities for the competent Cartoon Artist may include:Freelance Comic, Cartoonist, Technical Director, Film Animation, Commercial Illustration. the average annual salary for an Animator/Cartoonist varies between $50,766 and $64,327. However, competition is steep due to the subjective and creative demands placed on the industry.
