Nanotechnology, as the name implies is the science dealing with and developing the structures of size 100 nanometers or less. it is the engineering of functional systems at the molecular scale. It has the potential to create applications and processes in field of medicine, engineering, and energy production. It ranges from device physics, to molecular self-assembly, to developing new materials with dimensions on the nanoscale, even to directly control matter on the atomic scale. The birth of cluster science and invention of scanning tunelling microscope led to the development of science of nanotechnology.

nanotechnology courses are available at the masters and doctoral levels at various institutes the world over. At present, no reputed institute is offering courses in Nanotechnology at the graduation level. Eligibility criteria for masters course is Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Life Sciences and with PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) as subsidiary subjects. The M. Tech course in Nanotechnology is of great benefit because students who come from different streams enrich each other to intensify their knowledge .Admission to the 5 year integrated M.Tech Course in Nanotechnology is through entrance test.

All the technological advances of the future depends greatly on nanotechnology especially in industrial manufacturing in the context of not only what is being manufactured, but also how it will be manufactured. a nanotechnologist can find job prospects in biotech sector for the analysis of miniature biocomponents or in pharmaceutical companies. Also there are various research opportunities available.
