The answer is ‘animation’- one of the fastest growing and most in-demand industries in the world. Animation is a component of multimedia which derived its name from the Latin word ‘anima’ meaning soul and can be defined as the art of breathing life to a character. it is a blend of entertainment industry and technology and is mainly concerned with design, drawing, layout and production of graphically rich and attractive multimedia clips. Multimedia alias multiple media as the name suggests is an enormous field that uses more than one medium of communication. It is an art that merges text, images, graphics, animation, audio and video to create virtual magic.

Animation is making of movies, games or cartoons by moving the drawings or models of animals or people with the help of computers or other electronic means. Time and space play a critical role in animation. In addition to traditional 2-d and computer based 3-d animation it also encompasses puppet animation, clay animation, sand animation, vegetable animation etc. Both 2D and 3D animation can be created digitally. Two-dimensional images are shallow in appearance, while three-dimensional images have a feel of depth to them, thus making them look more real. Animation is emerging a special form of media now days. Multi media and Animation are among the major hunted jobs of the 21st century. From a simple flick book to the computer 3D animation of stories, animation involves a lot of hard work and long hours of meticulous planning. So if your mind is full of creativity and new ideas and if u have sufficient patience then this is the right career option for you.Educational qualification is not much important in this field . this is a field manipulated by excellent creativity and drawing skills. Animators are the talented artists who create characters for a variety of projects like movies, television, advertisements and so on. Some universities offer a bachelor’s degree in this field. For a diploma and for a bachelor degree in animation one needs to have passed 12th standard from any recognized board with minimum of 45% marks. For postgraduate program one should have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline preferably arts. Certain institutes have a strict eligibility criterion-only graduate of architecture, technology and engineering, fine arts can apply for this course. One can specialize as a 3D or 2D modeler, special FX Creator, Animator, Character Designer, Games Designer, Interaction Designer. In addition One should have a basic knowledge of handling computers. However a majority of institutions provide diploma or certificate courses in this field. It includes study of software’s like Toonz Harlequin, Adobe Flash, CelAction, Anime Studio, Toon Boom Animation, Animaker, 3ds Max (Autodesk), Softimage|XSI (Avid), MAYA (Autodesk) etc. 3D animators also deal with modeling, rendering, texturing and lighting. The texture, lighting and color of the 3D objects are modified using software programmers and virtual cameras are used to focus, resize, zoom and illuminate the figures. Cel or 2D Animation: Also known as classical animation, 2 dimensional animation deals more with drawing and framing and is the base of 3D animation. So a good knowledge of classical 2-d animation always comes handy. Animation is a creative thing and one needs to have creativity while handling it. It not being a mechanical subject needs lot of passion and imaginative skills. One should have flair for sketching/drawing. It needs long hours of continuous work with a whole lot of dedication. One should be good at visualizations, choice of colors and acting too. Though this profession seems to be quite non glamorous, yet it is very exciting and unless one has the complete dedication and interest in it one should not enter this field.

Field of animation opens the door to film industries such as Bollywood and Hollywood, which is the world of special effects and imagery for films. It is a booming industry with wide job openings and one can work on full length animation movies or any other related fields like television, advertising industry etc. Some of the jobs offered in the animation industry are : Content developer, Modeler, Story Broad Artist, Character animator, Background artist, Layout artist, 2D animator, In-between animator, Scanner operator, Compositing artist, Special effects artist, Audio & video specialist , Visualiser, Texture artist, Rigging artist, Lighting artist, Compositor, Editor, Key frame animator or as a Rendering artist. Though entertainment through film and television is the main area of application in this profession, animation is also needed in other areas like business, sales, engineering, education and advertising. It has chances in fashion designing and interior designing and even in medical, legal and insurance companies for their presentations and models. The gaming industry that includes video and mobile games are looking forward for good animators. Some animation institutions appoint students for teaching assistance, so they can take ir career in to teaching profession also. Animators could even find jobs at print media and publishing firms. Free lance work is another option for animators, particularly those specializing in web animation. With in years professionals in this field can earn six-digit salary. As a junior animator or trainee one could get between 1000 – 1400 $ per month. A three to five year experienced animator will get 2500-3000$ And a well-experienced animator who has a good portfolio of excellent animation work could easily get 5000-6000$ per month.
